The dioramas on display in the first room
Located in three different locations, the Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology offers an overview of the archaeological finds – dating back to prehistoric times – that took place in the Pinerolo area. In the headquarters, located in Viale Giolitti 1, three exhibition spaces highlight the two aspects of CeSMAP (Centro Studi e Museo d’Arte Preistorica) activity, i.e. research and didactics, and help to better understand the initial period of human history.
In room 1 there are nine dioramas, which show the phases of human evolution from a biological and cultural point of view; room 2 shows a series of casts of rock engravings from all over Europe, made by means of the so-called “SRB System”, a technique developed in the Pinerolese laboratories in the 1970s, which is based on the use of a thermoplastic resin; there is also a reproduction of the “Venus of Willendorf” (23000-19000 a.). C.; and the Neolithic village of Charavines, in the department of Isere. In the last room, dedicated to research in the Pinerolo area (Rocca di Cavour, Val Chisone, Val Germanasca and Val Pellice), both casts and photographs of rock engravings and archaeological finds are on display.

The House of the Senate, in Largo D’Andrade 2-4 (click here to read more), and the church of Sant’Agostino, where temporary exhibitions are held, are also used as exhibition spaces.
