The area was investigated in 1970 by the archaeologist Janigro d&#8217;Aquino, who started a series of excavations that would last for three years: since then, the site has unfortunately experienced a phase of abandonment, although, currently, the arrangement of the area is the subject of a project financed by the Region. Excavations have unearthed a number of <strong>megaliths mehnir<\/strong>, anthropomorphic and zoomorphic stelae, as well as a <strong>dolmen <\/strong><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_19502\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/ambientecultura.it\/files\/2020\/12\/1-6.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-19502\" class=\"wp-image-19502 size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/ambientecultura.it\/files\/2020\/12\/1-6-300x180.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"180\" srcset=\"http:\/\/ambientecultura.it\/files\/2020\/12\/1-6-300x180.jpg 300w, http:\/\/ambientecultura.it\/files\/2020\/12\/1-6.jpg 480w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-19502\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Briaglia: the entrance to the dolmen<\/p><\/div>\n<p>So called for the entrance, similar to the traditional dolmens, it is a half-moon mortuary room, preceded by a corridor 30 meters long, in which there is also a well, and covered by a mound of earth: there are, on the walls, traces of red ochre, that we find in other Ligurian funeral contexts.<br \/>\nPeculiarity of this funeral structure is the alignment of the <strong>dromos<\/strong> (Greek term indicating the entrance corridors) with the sun rays on 21 December, winter solstice: running along the tunnel and reflecting in the well of water, these create a special play of light inside the room.<\/p>\n<p>IN DEPTH AND VISITS<br \/>\nThe site (coordinate Lat. 44\u00b023&#8217;58.55&#8243;N, Long.7\u00b052&#8217;38.73&#8243;E)\u00a0 is not currently open to the public.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/ambientecultura.it\/locations\/area-megalitica-di-briaglia\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">click here for the map<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div><\/section>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"","protected":false},"author":75,"featured_media":17737,"parent":0,"menu_order":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","template":"","meta":{"_monsterinsights_skip_tracking":false,"_monsterinsights_sitenote_active":false,"_monsterinsights_sitenote_note":"","_monsterinsights_sitenote_category":0,"footnotes":""},"class_list":["post-19496","page","type-page","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.2 - https:\/\/yoast.com\/product\/yoast-seo-wordpress\/ -->\n<title>Megalithic area of Briaglia | Ambiente &amp;
