{"id":4019,"date":"2016-08-20T16:42:41","date_gmt":"2016-08-20T14:42:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ambientecultura.it\/en\/?page_id=4019"},"modified":"2016-08-20T16:42:41","modified_gmt":"2016-08-20T14:42:41","slug":"p27b-the-monumental-marble-gravestone","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"http:\/\/ambientecultura.it\/en\/3659-2\/p27b-the-monumental-marble-gravestone\/","title":{"rendered":"P27b The monumental marble gravestone"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: left\"><strong>P27b<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>The monumental marble gravestone<\/strong><br \/>\nIn the inscription you can read:<br \/>\n<em>V(ivus) \/ C(aius) Cornelius \/ C(ai) f(ilius) Cam(ilia tribu) \/ Germanus, aed (ilis), \/ q(uaestor),<\/em><br \/>\n<em>(duo)vir; praef (ectus) fabr(um), \/ iudexex (quinque) dec(uriis), \/ flamen Divi Aug(usti) \/ sibi et \/<\/em><br \/>\n<em>Valeriae M(arci) filiae \/ Marcellae, \/ uxori optimae.<\/em><br \/>\n<em>In the lower frame, you can read:<\/em><br \/>\n<em>S(uo) l(oco) v(ivus) i(pse) p(osuit)<\/em><br \/>\nAlba (Tanaro banks, 1779)<br \/>\nSecond half-part of the I century AC<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">This monument had been dedicated by Caius Cornelius Germanus, an important member of the city<br \/>\naristocracy, to himself and to his wife. In the text he describes his political career (the cursus<br \/>\nhonorum): aedile, quaestor, duovir, prefectus fabri and judge of one of the fifteen decuria and<br \/>\nfurthermore responsible for the deified Augustus.<br \/>\nThis last charge \u2013 incised with smaller letters \u2013 had been added when the monument was completed<br \/>\nand therefore it represents the final role of his career. The frontal side of the monument shows a<br \/>\nhighly decorated framed inscription.
