\nThe Romanization<\/strong>
\nWe have few direct sources about the oldest contacts between Romans and Ligurians, who lived in
\nthe Lange, settled where there was going to found Alba.
\nThe Romanization of this land probably revealed pacific thank to an agreement (foedus) that has led
\nto the occupation of a previous Ligurian village in the first half of the II century BC.
\nIn 89 BC, the Lex Pompeia \u2013 approved by the consul Gneo Pompeo Strabone \u2013 transformed the
\nnorthern Italy cities in Latin rights communities. In order to honour Pompeo, the town of Alba
\nchanged its name in Alba Pompeia.
\nBeing a Latin Rights city, only a small part of the community owned the Roman citizen\u2019s
\nprerogatives. The extension of the rights to the entire city population arrived only in 89 BC, when
\nAlba Pompeia became a Roman municipium, according to the Ceasar\u2019s law. The citizens of the city
\nwere inscribed to the tribus Camilia.
\nLater, as a consequent of the Augustus\u2019 reform, the city \u2013 with the zone to the south of the Po –
\nbecame part of the 9th region, the Liguria.
\nThis administrative division remained in force until the Diocletian\u2019s reforms (end of the III century
\nAC)
