\nThe brick stamps<\/strong>
\nThe brick makers\u2019 habit to emblazon stamps on the shingles or bricks dates back to the end of the I
\ncentury BC. They constitute a real trade mark (private or public) emblazoned on the raw clay with a
\nstamping.
\nOne hundred bricks coming from the defensive walls depict the inscriptions L.C.L.F., LCL and
\nL.C.LVPI; they referred to the main laboratory and to its brunches, administrated by the family
\nwhich the name can be reconstructed from Lucius C(\u2026) Lupus<\/em>.
\nFurthermore, there are two official imperial stamps: the first one is referred to the couple of consuls
\nLicinius Crassus<\/em> and Cn. Cornelius Lentulus Augur<\/em> (14 BC) and the second one to the consuls
\nTiberius Claudius<\/em> and Publius Quintilius<\/em> (13 BC). They are not related to a strictly local
\nproduction.
\nThe bricks marked Valerius\/Valeri<\/em> and Valerieis\/Mogetius<\/em> are widely spread in this territory and
\nthey refer to the laboratories owned by the Valeri<\/em> family.
\nOther two marks from the urban space \u2013 Messius Optatus<\/em> and Coccei<\/em> \u2013 refer to productions distant
\nproductions: the former one has an unknown origin and the second one is common in the Bene
\nVagienna land.
\nDifferent symbols \u2013 as numbers, semicircles, gamma signs \u2013 appear on other bricks but they do not
\nseem linked to a specific laboratory.
