\nThe forum and the public buildings<\/strong>
\nThe public space was dominated by the forum, the authentic centre of the political and the religious
\nlife. The holy buildings, the administrative seats and the shops concentrated in this square. The
\nmonuments destined to the free time \u2013 as the thermal baths or the theatre \u2013 were in its proximity;
\notherwise, the amphitheatre was peripheral.
\nThe archaeological sources \u2013 especially the discovery of a temple on a high podium partially
\npreserved in Pertinace square \u2013 have permitted to identify the area of the Roman forum in the
\ncurrent Risorgimento square.
\nThe rectangular forum was surrounded on the long sides by two arcades of which only few bases
\nhave preserved on the northern side and it was crossed by a cardus. On the west side there was the
\ntemple, surrounded on three sides by the columns, and the remains of a building on the east side
\ncould be probably referred to the civil basilica.
\nThe neighboring quarters were occupied by the theatre (Insula XI<\/em>) and by the remains of the thermal
\nbaths (Insula X<\/em>)
