P36b The garnished cornice
Garnished Cornice
Alba, Risorgimento Square 6 (1994)
First half of the I century AC, about
This is a portion of a Carrara marble frame of which two carved sides and another one smothered
have preserved. It constituted a squared cornice with a 43 cm minor basis, in origin decorated on
three sides, belonging to a panelled ceiling with corbels; one of the panels is garnished with a
flower with three petals. This artefact has been put in light in the area of the ancient forum of Alba
Pompeia and it probably belonged to the high part of a pillar or a column related to a wall of the
forum or of the temple.
