At the top of the village of Novello, in a particularly picturesque location, stands the Castle, built in the mid-1800s on the ruins of an ancient manor house from medieval times. The castle belonged to the Marquises Del Carretto, was later destroyed in the Landsknecht invasions during the French-Spanish wars in the 15th century.
In 1880 it was redesigned in the Neo-Gothic style by architect Gian Battista Schellino and is now used as a hotel.
Near the Castle of Novello there is a panoramic terrace, called the “Arch of Monviso,” from which there is a spectacular view of the entire province of Cuneo’s surrounding flatlands and the chain of the Alps, from which towers the tip of the Viso, the highest mountain in the province of Cuneo, from which the Po River originates.
